Professional Services for Farmers
Harvest Estimation
By estimating a representative sample from each lot, we can give you an estimate of the current international market price for your harvest. As auctioneers, we keep track of prices paid in Hong Kong and Japan for every combination of size, shape, surface quality, and color of Tahitian pearls.
Sorting & Polishing
To get the best possible price, a harvest must be well sorted by groups of size, shape, surface, and color. Mixed batches of high- and low-quality pearls will only sell for one low average price. By sorting them, farmers get the best possible price for every single pearl they’ve harvested. Belpearl Auctions can sort your pearls so that you can have the best possible outcome for your harvest.
Finance & Advance Pay
If a farmer wishes to auction but cannot wait until the auction event for payment, Belpearl Auctions will advance funds immediately to your local account in Tahiti. That way, you can participate in the auction to get the most competitive price for your pearls while also dealing with immediate cash needs.
Farm Consultancy
To get the best return on investment, pearl farms should regularly check that their operational processes align with best practices. Learn more about how to get your farm assessed and our possibilities to bring you a better return on investment.

The Auction Process
1
Estimation & Deposit
Our auction coordinator will provide an initial estimate of value based on a sample*. If you agree, you will be provided with an auction contract. The auction contract spells out the terms and conditions for working together and records details (weight, pieces) of pearls submitted.

Please note this is an estimate only. Pearl prices are market-driven and regularly subject to change. The final price is determined only after the auction is complete.

If you agree, the contract is signed and your pearls are deposited with us in Papeete.
2
Advance Downpayment
Upon signing the contract, Belpearl Auctions will transfer a percentage of the estimated value to your nominated account.
3
Sorting & Cataloguing
If you have not yet sorted your pearls, we will need to sort them into lots (this may be done in Tahiti or Hong Kong). Once this is done, you will receive a catalogue of your lots and be informed of the upcoming auction date and time. We typically hold Black South Sea pearl auctions every 2–3 months in Hong Kong.
4
Export Process
Our auction coordinator will help export your harvest. This involves a multi-day process to comply with local legal requirements. We will need a Producer Card and ID to apply for and obtain the official Export License from the DRMM and legally export your harvest to our auction center in Hong Kong.
5
Shipping & Handling
After receiving export clearance, Belpearl Auctions will handle all shipping and handling costs to Hong Kong.
6
Auction Day
You are welcome to come to Hong Kong and visit the auction floor to witness the event. We run a silent auction, which means that at the end of the day, Belpearl Auctions will count the bids and a private report of the bids for your lots will be presented to you.
7
Auction Report & Decision
Once the auction report is presented, you decide whether to accept or reject the bids for your lots. Belpearl Auctions will provide consultation and recommendations to assist you. Your decisions must be provided to us within a few hours.
8
Post Auction & Payment
Upon receiving your decisions, Belpearl Auctions will handle billing, shipping, and payment collection from the clients. This process is typically completed within 2–3 weeks.Once all payments are received, we deduct a 5% sales commission and any pre-approved costs incurred on your behalf. Any advance payments made to you will also be deducted at this time. Payment will be wired to your nominated bank account.

Last Tahitian Auction Results

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEPapeete, Tahiti – French PolynesiaThe Belpearl Tahitian pearl auction, held January 16–17, 2026, in Hong Kong, demonstrated market discipline amid a traditionally slow January period.Around 200,000 pearls (full quality range) were offered, estimated at approximately USD 3.5 million. Rather than sell, to protect long-term value, Belpearl Auctions advised producers to withhold unsold lots that did not meet estimates rather than accept sub-market bids. This strategic decision prevented a potential sharp drop—prices could have fallen to around 700 XPF per piece (as seen in some December 2025 Hong Kong deals) without Belpearl's firm stance.Producers are confident demand will rebound post these events, bolstered by Tahitian pearls' unique dark iridescence, size, and traceable French Polynesian origin.“This outcome highlights sector maturity—prioritizing sustainable pricing safeguards farmers and premium positioning,” said a Belpearl spokesperson. The Tahitian pearl industry remains committed to quality, ethics, and responsible cultivation.

How to Prepare Your Lots for the Auction
Sizes
Use a sizing sieve to sort pearl sizes by 1st grade (8, 9, 10 mm) and 2nd grade (10, 11, 12 mm+). For keshi pearls, keep them separate and sort by weight only.
1
Shapes
Now that you’ve sorted the 1st and 2nd grade, sort each grade into rounds, good shapes, and circles.
2
Lots
Now that you have sorted the size and shape of your harvest, use a counting tray and a scale to make lots.
